Ambient Occlusion

Ambient Occlusion shadows surfaces wherever it comes near or into contact with an object, including itself. Ambient Occlusion is a great way to add definition to an object and fake shadows.

You can turn Ambient Occlusion on or off using a toggle button.

It does take time to calculate occlusion, so keep that in mind before you use it for everything in the scene.

Visible in Occlusion allows you to stop objects from showing up in Ambient Occlusion.

In Figure B, the plane has been made invisible to occlusion so that the ball no longer receives occlusion shadows from it.

Occlusion Color lets you change the color of the occlusion shadow.

Occlusion Strength lets you adjust the intensity of the occlusion.

Occlusion MaxDist sets the furthest away an an object can be and still cast occlusion shadows.

Adjusting Occlusion MaxDist is only recommended for advanced users.

Occlusion Bias can be used to adjust for displacement maps or artifacts that appear.
