Translucence
Translucence allows light to pass through one side of the object to the other. Think of it as the reverse of Diffuse.

Normal translucence catches light from the opposite side of the object.
Density Based translucence only lets light pass through the least dense parts of the object. This is a good way to simulate things like plant stems and gel. Be aware that this method is slower than the other two, and may not work well with pointlights that cast shadows.
Soft Sampled translucence operates like Normal translucence, but can be softened using the Density control.

When the Translucence Style is set to Density Based, lowering the Translucence Density lets light pass through thicker parts of the object.
When Translucence Style is set to Soft Sampled, lowering the Translucence Density softens and spreads the light coming through the object.
